WHAT IS A BTAP?

This Beginning Teacher Assistance Program is designed for teachers in their first or second year of teaching. The program aims to build instructional skills and knowledge by providing year-long professional learning and continuous support tailored to participants' needs.

The program addresses the following six (6) Missouri Teacher Development System (MTDS) domains:

  • Classroom Manager and Community Builder
  • Instructional Designer and Facilitator of Student Thinking and Learning
  • Professional
  • Reflective Learner

WHY MUST I TAKE A BTAP?

Section 168.400 RSMo and section 168.021.1 of Missouri CSR 20-400.385 require every new educator to participate in a two-year Beginning Teacher Assistance Program (BTAP) with a minimum of quarterly meetings before upgrading their teaching certificate.

MSTA's 2024-25 Online BTAP Course Details:
MSTA's BTAP course is asynchronous online learning. Asynchronous learning means participants engage with the course content at times convenient to their schedule. The course is divided into modules. Each module uses online readings or uploaded media, quizzes, discussion boards, and more.

  • The Learning Management System, Teachable, is the platform for all of MSTA's Online Learning.

  • If this is your first online learning activity with MSTA, you will receive an email from Teachable to confirm your email address. (This is the email address you used to register for the event.) After confirming your email address, you must create a password. On the next screen, you will see the course(s) for which you are registered.

  • If you have previously participated in one of MSTA's online activities, you can log into Teachable. Your email is your username, and the password you used when confirming your email address. This will give you access to your account and products.

MSTA's 2024-25 Online BTAP Course fulfills Year 1, Quarter 1 of DESE's two-year Beginning Teacher Assistance Program certification requirement. Participants who complete the online BTAP before October 4, 2024, should meet the BTAP requirement by June 2026, assuming they do successive quarterly ongoing support throughout the two years.

Suppose you begin the online BTAP between October 7 and December 30, 2024. The BTAP still fulfills Year 1, Quarter 1 and you will complete the BTAP requirement in October of 2026 again assuming you meet the quarterly ongoing support through the two years.

The remaining quarters allow participants to tailor their ongoing support opportunities to fit their personal/professional needs, learning styles, and schedules. Participants should select ongoing learning supports that meet their Professional Growth/Development Plans' goals, interests, or areas of weaknesses.

Quarterly Ongoing Learning Support Available:

  • Participate in an MSTA "Beyond the Book" Club book study (offered monthly excluding the months of August, December, and May)
  • Participate in an MSTA Extended "Beyond the Book" Club book study (offered Quarter 1 August - October 4; Quarter 2 October 7 - December; Quarter 3 January - March and a "new" Semester long book study offered September - December & January - May)
